Plein Air, Paint Out! July 20
Plein Air Paint Out: Painting the Vintner’s Realm
GRAND ISLE, Vermont (July 20th, 2013) – Welcome to the 1st Annual: Plein Air Paint Out: Painting the Vintner’s Realm! This is a Lake Champlain Islands’ art and wine connection, to be held on July 20th, 2013, that is sure to be the talk of the summer. The Paint Out will take place at East Shore Vineyard in Grand Isle, Hall Home Place orchard and cafe in Isle La Motte, and Snow Farm Vineyard, in South Hero. The day will conclude at Grand Isle Art Works in Grand Isle.
Here is your chance to visit the Lake Champlain Islands for the very best the summer has to offer: lush vineyards and orchards with spectacular lake and mountain views! Artists will be assigned to a winery/orchard. Once there, artists will paint the scene of their choosing. Each artist will identify their painting area with signage for the event, making it easily seen by the day’s attendees.
Vineyards/orchards are encouraged to offer tastings of their specialty wines throughout the day! There should be much browsing and sampling of the fruit and the brush. During the painting hours of 10:00-3:00, visitors (and painters) can plan to experience the sensory pleasures of sight and taste – art and wine!
In the afternoon, artists will bring their framed finished pieces from the day to Grand Isle Art Works for the Palette to Palate Celebration and Art Sale which will take place from 4:00-7:00 pm on the gallery grounds.
- Palette to Palate Celebration, 4:00-7:00 pm
- Plein Air Paint Out, Art Sale and More
- Cash Bar with Wines and Beers from Vermont
- Sample and Enjoy: Vermont cheeses, Island veggies and fabulous local desserts
We hope you will join us!
Island Harvest Days/Foliage Open Studio Weekend
Open Studio Weekend takes place Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend in October. Authenticity and quality are at the heart of the event.
Vermont Crafts Council members who are Vermont visual artists and craftspeople, galleries, educational sites, may participate.
Participants agree to open their studios to the public for the weekend, create an educational element to their event, and distribute promotional materials of their own and the Vermont Studio Tour Guide.
Most Vermont craftspeople work in studios located in or close to their residences. These are places of production and inspiration located in downtowns as well as at the ends of dirt roads. Wherever their locations, they are exciting places to visit because they reflect the dynamic yet organized process that is used to produce the finished work of art.
The studio itself is enormously informative because you can see at a glance how the artist works. You see the swatches that have not been chosen for the quilt or the work that is experimental or not serious enough for the gallery. Buying or ordering work during an Open Studio sale is a unique experience because you have the opportunity to speak to the artist directly.
Discover the Heart of the Islands: Open Farm and Studio
Grand Isle County, Vermont, (July 14th & 15th, 2012) – Come to Grand Isle County, Vermont, located at the northern end of Lake Champlain, and discover the heart of the islands. Join us for the sixth annual Discover the Heart of the Islands: Open Farm and Studio Tour and visit vineyards, farms, art studios, galleries, and markets. Meet the artists, agricultural producers and their animals living and working at the edge of magnificent Lake Champlain.
The tour has become one of the premier summer events in the islands, with over fifty artists, artisans, and small farms opening their studio doors and swinging back the barnyard gates to showcase the variety, creativity and hospitality of Vermont’s archipelago—Grand Isle County.
This is a great way to get off the main road and truly “Discover” the heart of the islands. Watch demonstrations by potters, jewelers, painters, wood turners and paper makers. Sample savory delights from island producers and chefs at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday and at the Taste of the Islands food celebration on Sunday. Visit island farms and chat with the folks who provide the fresh meats, cheeses, and produce for our local markets. See angora goats, alpacas, llamas and sheep and get a chance to see how yarn is hand spun from these fiber animals.
The Discover the Heart of the Islands: Open Farm and Studio Tour is a great opportunity to buy items directly from the hands of the artists in their studios. You can visit fine art and craft galleries where work from island artists is featured. For those who are more adventurous plan to get your shoes dirty and learn how real farming happens. VT Open Studio Weekend is here!
We are filled to the brim with art work from some very talented Vermont artists – 60+ in total! The weekend is bringing out many of our artists to demonstrate their craft with our visitors!
We would love to have you join us, 10-5:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday! Come have a glass of lemonade and one of Jim’s famous cookies!
New Beginnings…
We are readying ourselves for some new beginnings at Grand Isle Art Works. First we have finally begun construction on our new 3-season room on the deck! We even were able to get it started before the real warm weather arrives – sort of the idea – to extend the dining season for the gallery cafe!
Glen Koski is a magician. He can take my ideas and make them work. Yee ha! The walls will be half solid – half moveable. They will pull back like a barn door on tracks. This way we can keep the room open in warm weather – but pull the doors shut when we need it more snugly!
Second…our cafe will be reopening soon, under new management. We apologize for this inconvenience – but had very short notice to get this new planning in place. We are on it now and are thinking all positive thoughts to get the cafe back on track. Watch for signs of our progress!
Jim makes a mean doughnut puff!
Spring Flowers!
Brrrr….
Okay, already. It is now truly time to warm up! If you can’t get warm outside – come on into the gallery! We are full to bursting with new art work…the kind that makes you feel all warm inside!
Welcome to our newest artists!

Don’t forget to check out our great selection of classes! There are lots to choose from on our Programs page!
Is there a bunny nearby?
I just know that bunny will leave us some treat-filled Easter eggs. Come on out to the gallery this weekend!
Knitting class…sign up is still open!
There is still room to join this class taught by June Golato of grand Isle. It is a fabulous cowl knit with alpaca yarn. Bring your own needles and yarn or purchase that night from the gallery. You will be glad you did!
