We are playing both sides of the weather game these days inside the Grand Isle Art Works.  We just added snowflake photographer, Stuart Hall to our list of artists as well as watercolor and silk painting artist, Nancy Jacobus.  Her specialty is…you guessed it…spring flowers!  Between the two we are ready for whatever Mother Nature sends up.

Our winter reposo is finished!  The gallery and kitchen door cafe are open for business! Do come in for a visit:  Wednesday – Saturday, 10-5:00, Sundays until 3:00 for the gallery.  The cafe opens for breakfast at 8:00 am!  Yum!

Jim and I made good use of our time “off”…we visited family in Naples, Italy and learned the value of resposo!  Upon our return, I headed to my day job as a district administrator in a local school district, knitting all the while!  Jim got busy building a new jewelry display case for the orange room.  He is also turning wood like crazy in hopes of getting ahead of his yarn bowl groupies!  We both have had a grand time planning the construction of our new 3-season dining room with local contractor, Glenn Koski.  Stay tuned – we hope for completion this spring!

Groundhog Day started with the dear little guy NOT seeing his shadow in Vermont!  That means an early Spring!!  What could get better than that —–the Mini Mixer!

We had a full house of guests ready to chat and chew and stroll through the art work.  They examined the work of our newest artist, Dana Walrath  and her Wild Horses of Vermont!  Jim’s new presentation furniture, that uses every ounce of available space, was unveiled for the group.  It looks great and allows much more visibility for our artists’ artwork.  The food was prepared by the kitchen door cafe.  It was delicious!  We had 6 artists join us:  Meta Strick, Greg Drew, Bill Walsh, Rachel Laundon, Raven Schwan-Noble, and Sherry Corbin.

We also were able to take a look at the new bench design for this year’s “Take a Seat in the Islands” art promotion sponsored by local businesses (us!) and the Lake Champlain Islands Chamber of Commerce.  Rachel Laundon will be painting the Grand Isle Art Works bench again this year…she has a very clever design mapped out for it already!

Winner of our Guess the Shadow contest was….Linda Livingstone of East Shore Vineyards!  Congratulations to Linda who took home a hand turned walnut bowl!

I think a Groundhog Day celebration might just become a tradition for us – a great time to reconnect in the middle of winter!

We reopen on Saturday, February 11th!  Come on out for a cup of coffee and a treat for that Valentine of yours!  First five people get 10% off  one item!

Grand Isle Art Works and the kitchen door cafe are just taking a short reposo. We are cleaning, putting together class schedules and even redecorating a bit. Look for our return on Saturday, February 11th. We’ll be there with bells on!

In the midst of all of the frost nipped perennials in our front flower bed, we found this on Saturday!  A confused – but very beautiful hyacinth bulb peeking out of the plant matter strewn about.  I am never one to truly clean out a bed.  Maybe this is a good reason why!  They have protected this bulb from the cold nights.  Is this a sign of things to come???

If you are looking for a warm place to visit, drop by the kitchen door cafe for lunch or a cup of coffee.  Browse through the gallery.  We have everything you could ever want!  Our selection of chenille, knitted, and velvet scarves are just right for this weather.  We have casual and fancy.  Hats and mittens, too! Come in and stay a while.  There is free wifi – I think you will find it warm and cozy even on the chilliest of days.
