Sweet Harmony by the Lake

Grand Isle Art Works located is turning 6 years old this July!

New Sign!As part of our business model we try to “give back” to our community during our birthday month, July. Last year we built 6 Little Free Libraries during our Books by the Lake campaign. This year we are proposing a new artistic campaign, Sweet Harmony by the Lake. Why sweet? It is our 6th birthday/anniversary as a gallery – the candy gift year! What could be sweeter than collecting our positive messages for our island communities and beyond!

Sweet Harmony by the Lake will gather artistic messages in the form of decorated flags from young, old, visitors, artists, and more. Our flags will focus on the positive aspirations we have for our islands’ communities within our beautiful state of Vermont. With each breeze from the lake, our harmonious messages will soar across our communities.

We have a huge display of colorful flags each decorated uniquely to capture that positive message. The flags themselves will be made from torn cloth in 5 colors – each color designating an element of our environment.

  1. blue for sky or space
  2. white for air or clouds
  3. red for fire
  4. green for water
  5. yellow for earth

Would you like to take part in this community art event?  You can purchase a flag kit to be sent to you.

Sweet Harmony Flag Kit, 5 flags – 1 of each color: mailed to you!

Not sure you want to commit to decorating a flag – but you do want to support this community art event? We welcome any and all donations to offset the cost of these flags. Thank you!

The flags are strung up outside where the wind will disperse their messages. The flags will remain until into the fall when they will begin to fade and fray. This is a visual reminder of the natural passing of all things.  Later, there will be a burning of the flags to release the last of their messages. The installation of flags will take place at Grand Isle Art Works. The gallery/cafe is mid-way up Vermont’s island archipelago and sits on route 2. The flags here will be seen and visited by all.
